So the other day, I was taking a walk with my Uncle down 34th Street in Manhattan (one of the busiest streets in New York City) and he told me something that is only really hitting me now almost 24 hours later…
He said, “nephew look around… what do you see?”. I said, “too many damn people walking and bumping into each other.” He said, “now listen to what they are saying”. I said, “okay”. He said, “tell me the most things you hear”. I listened… I heard people mostly complaining about work, money, bills, friends, family etc. Then I told him. He said, “was anybody sounding thankful for now or optimistic for the future”. I said, “no Uncle Rexy… Why?” He said, “because people don’t take the time to appreciate and live the life they’re currently living to the fullest.” I agreed. He said, “I don’t understand why people save money… It makes NO SENSE to me! What are they saving it for??? The Angels can’t use it, God doesn’t want it, and the Devil can’t touch it! Why would you save it for the future when you can’t control the future? You could die tomorrow. Your investments could go belly up next week. Why are you working your ass off and complaining while doing so because you want a so-called secure future down the road that isn’t even guaranteed? Spend your money on yourself and those you love! Experience life NOW while you can. Don’t be frivolous with your money, but don’t be a ‘SLAVE TO THE SAVE’ either. If you’re making money right now and you’re doing it dilegently and/or consistently then what are you worried about? You should be always making it somehow. People have put the passion of the ‘HUSTLE’ way down the priority line because they are scared or don’t have enough faith in themselves to be or maintain being successful.”
Funny thing is, I remember watching the DAME DASH interview on The Breakfast Club (Power 105.1FM in NYC) over and over again… And he kept saying… “SAVING IS FOR SUCKERS”. Spend your money and keep flipping it. Hmmmmmmmmmmm… By the way my Uncle is and was very successful and now just travels the world for a hobby. Duly noted Unc! Puts another perspective on life for me…
Sometimes people put too many eggs into tomorrow’s basket and forego living more abundantly for today.
